Pacific Collection Access Project

Auckland Museum is opening up access to its Pacific treasures collection and creating stronger connections with Auckland’s Pacific communities.

From musical instruments to weapons, textiles to carvings, tools to ornaments – the project will enable the Pacific collection to be better known, cared for and accessible onsite, offsite and online.

The project is part of the Future Museum ambition to open up access to collections.

  • Nai Yau Vakaviti: Na Ka Mareqeti

    OCT 2016 - JUNE 2017

    Treasures from Fiji are the second collection group to be explored, which includes over 1500 objects. 'Nai Yau Vakaviti: Na Ka Mareqeti' is the name the Fijian community has gifted to the project.

    On 27 May 2016 Church Ministers blessed the Cook Islands collection in preparation for the Cook Islands component of the three year Pacific Collection Access Project. 'Akairo a te Taunga' is the name that was been gifted to the Cook Islands Collection project.
