Dr Rodney Wilson, who died in Auckland on Saturday evening, was today remembered by colleagues for his spectacular achievements during his thirteen year tenure as Director at Auckland Museum as well as the major contribution he made to New Zealand's cultural landscape.

A new exhibition opening tomorrow at Auckland Museum aims to introduce the next generation to the achievements and the legacy of Sir Edmund Hillary 60 years on from his historic climb of Mt Everest.

Auckland War Memorial Museum today published its Annual Plan for the 12 months beginning on 1 July 2013. The Plan received unanimous approval from Auckland Council last month.

Auckland War Memorial Museum has achieved a milestone in its sustainability efforts by cutting its carbon footprint during 2012 by 21% – taking its reduction over the past two years to 31%. This result means the museum expects to spend 35% less on electricity and gas in 2013 compared to what was spent in its benchmark year of 2010 (adjusted for inflation). This equates to a saving of $340,000 this year.

Aucklanders will have one month to catch 30 of the best World of WearableArt (WOW) garments when the Off The Wall exhibition opens at Auckland Museum this Friday (22 February 2013).
