From the Summit – Hillary’s Enduring Legacy
Term 2: 6 May - 29 September 2013
On 29 May 1953, Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay reached the top of Mount Everest. How was this Historic climb achieved? What extraordinary legacy did Sir Edmund Hillary give Nepal?
Class Quest is an education programme where students visit the Hillary exhibition, and are inspired to take on their own quest/ challenge and participate and contribute in their community.
This programme targets year levels 4 - 8 with opportunities for extension for year levels 9 – 10.

The Bulldog and the Battlecruiser
Term 2: 6 May – 18 December
In 1913 the battlecruiser HMS New Zealand set off on a 10-month flag-waving tour of the world, including two months visiting New Zealand ports. It was a huge success - more than half of New Zealand’s population turned out to see the battlecruiser! What did this mean for New Zealanders of that time? What was their response to the arrival of the Battlecruiser? Learn more about life onboard HMS New Zealand and its very special crew member Pelorus Jack.

Matariki

Focusing on three days in the lunar calendar during Matariki, each day explores the realm of a different atua (diety) with hands-on activities related to fishing, hunting, planting, food gathering and other aspects of community life.

Moana - My Ocean
Venture into an unknown world
Te ara o Hauraki
Terms 2 & 3: 20 June - 28 October 2013
The Marine exhibition will take students on an immersive experience traveling from the familiar to the unfamiliar, the known to the unknown as they travel from the Firth of Thames, through the Hauraki Gulf, the deep sea, the Kermadec Trench before emerging again at the Kermadec Islands.
As part of the exhibition the Museum is offering a rich eLearning programme aligned to key competencies of the NZ Curriculum.
