Auckland Museum Institute Events Programme

WhaowhiaThe Auckland Museum Institute operates Friends of the Auckland Museum® giving members the best of both worlds;an opportunity to support the Museum and enjoy the benefits of Museum membership and also links to the Royal Society of New Zealand. The Institute is the Auckland Branch of the RSNZ and so members also enjoy a programme of lectures, field trips, and discussions such as the popular Cafe Scientifique as well as exhibition previews and behind-the-scenes experiences.

Cafe Scientifique and Cafe Humanities

Each month we organise a facilitated discussion in the downstairs lounge bar at the Horse and Trap. After a short presentation by an expert in their field, the floor is open for questions and debate over a meal or drink.

Topics range from science, politics, economics, psychology and sustainability, to New Zealand's space programme (yes, we have one!), and depending on the topic it will be called either Cafe Scientifique or Cafe Humanities.
