  • Sergeant James Marino, who embarked with the 9th Reinforcements. He was wounded once.

My Grandad Ra's eldest brother, the 'once' wounded Uncle Jim had his hands blown off in the war. He returned home with stumps at the end of his arms. Uncle Jim also lost his right eye in the blast, affecting his neck up to his nose, which required skin grafts during hospitalisation abroad, possibly in Cairo, and upper chest (no plastic surgery in those days). He went on to write, to cut his food etc, even to get his School Cert...all with his 'once' wound.

Uncle Jim went on to become an Agricultural contractor, as well as raising several whangai and mokopuna. Public - Shalom - Other relative - 25 April 2020 - David R. Marino
