    DEATH OF PRIVATE R. A. ADAIR.
    The sad News was received to-day by Mrs. R. Adair, of Ormond road, Whataupoko, of the death of her son, Private R. A. (Archie), Adair, from wounds received at the Dardanelles. As mentioned in a recent issue, Private Adair was a member of the 1st Australian Infantry, and his death is announced by the following telegram from the Hon. Jas. Allen, Minister for Defence — Deeply regret to inform you that I have received the following reply from the Minister of Defence, Melbourne, to my cable of inquiry with respect to your son -- Reported 222 Private R. A. Adair, First Australian Infantry, died of wounds May 2nd.' Please accept my sincerest sympathy with you in your loss." Private Adair will be remembered by many local friends for his skillful arid promising performances in the boxing ring, he. being, the winner of several local championships. He was a member of "C". Company Territorials, and was employed by Mr Alf. Wade as a plumber for about six years, and he left Gisborne about eighteen months ago for Australian He was working at Sidney, and joined the First Australian Infantry. News was first received of his having been wounded, and about a week ago his mother was advised that he was dangerously ill.
