William was my great uncle, his sister took me from the orphanage ( my grand mother ) on going to stay with her for a short while before going to foster care I used to hold the photo of her three brothers in uniform before embarking for war. Nan used to cry as she said parents were never the same with the death of William.
I have visited Ypres three times, walked in his path,and erected a plaque in Saint GEORGES CHURCH YPRES. After research I went to the farm were he was buried, but never recovered ( Kronprinz farm )
The lady made me welcome, and I walked the farm with her, and stood on a German pill box. Now the spooky part, the ladies name is HIlda, the same as my Nan, and she was born about the time my Nan passed away. Williams name is on Toyne cot wall but I feel I've connected with him,as I doubt any family has ever visited Ypres. Reading, and seeing what these brave young men e
