  • The Maungakaramea community holds an ANZAC service each year when a cross is placed in front of our monument, for each of the men listed on the monument. Local children place a flower on each cross and the name is read out. We remember each man including your relation.

  • From my childhood, I had always heard of my Great Uncle Douglas Walker from my grandmother, his sister. She gave me the only photo she had of him in about 1970. It is only now, in 2015, that his military records have been released that we can learn more about his disappearance/death. My respect for him continues to this day.
