In memory of Maurice Thompson, the brother of my father, Edmund, and son of my grandmother, Catherine Jane Thompson, of Christchurch NZ (born in Eire). I was named after Maurice in 1953. He was only 22 when he died in Egypt in WWII and, sadly, my father also passed away suddenly in hospital in Palmerston North in 1956, aged only 37, as a result of a hospital infection (“H” bug). I was only 2 years old at the time. So this tribute is also to my grandmother, for losing both of her sons far too soon. She passed away in Christchurch in 1979, aged 82. They will always be loved and respected. And to my mother, Irene Betty Thompson, who passed away in Tauranga NZ, in 2018, aged 93, who jointly gave me Maurice’s name (David Maurice Thompson).
