    Personnel records indicate the following units: Auckland Mounted Rifles, 13 Squadron and 13th Mounted Rifles. According to his personnel records he was in 13 Squadron, 13th Reinforcements with the rank of Private and then was transferred to the Veterinary Corps briefly and then to the 13th Mounted Rifles, New Zealand Mounted Rifles with the rank of Trooper.

    Arrived in Devonport, England and then marched to Tidworth from Sling Camp.From Tidworth he went back to Sling Camp and then proceeded overseas to Egypt around 8 December 1916

    Fell ill in Egypt from an inflammation of the stomach. Was admitted to N.Z. Convalescent Home at Port Said where he improved slightly but condition deteriorated. Was admitted to Aotea New Zealand Convalescent Hospital in Heliopolis, Egypt and was finally invalided to New Zealand.
