    Williams fought at Messines where he was a battalion messenger. He was involved in the battle for the village of Passchendaele in the Ypres district. It was here, on October 12 1917, that he was wounded by three machine-gun bullets.

    Repatriated to New Zealand in December 1917. AWMM
