  • James Dalley was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Groes Dalley, of 67 Byron St., Sydenham, Christchurch.

    New Zealand at the Front ( a magazine written and published and illustrated in France by men of the New Zealand Division) 1917 issue, page141.

    Embarked Wellington, 25 September 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 21 November 1916, and marched into Sling Camp.
    Reverted to Lance Corporal, 21 November 1916.
    Proceeded overseas to France, 9 December 1916; joined 2nd Bn, Canterbury Infantry Regiment, in the field, 5 January 1917; relinquished rank of Temporary Lance Corporal, 5 January 1917.
    Killed in action, 7 June 1917.

    Commemorated on Addington Workshops Roll of Honour, Ferrymead, Christchurch. Parents: Mr & Mrs Nicholas Grose Dalley, 67 Byron Street, Sydenham, Christchurch AWMM
