  • My name is Dale Shewan. My father is Herbert James Boyce and his father (my grandfather) is Herbert Walker Boyce. In 2012 I traveled to Gallipoli to see where my grandfather had been stationed. It was a very moving experience standing at Lone Pine looking out across the thousands of white crosses and the Dardanelles. My son was in Gallipoli on Anzac Day the same year to remember a grandfather he did not know. My grandfather was a humble man and I can not imagine the atrocities he saw as a stretcher bearer being a very young man at the time. He survived Gallipoli and lived to see in his 90's.
