    MR. ARTHUR CLAYDEN
    A prominent member of the Te Karaka community who took a leading part in the activities of the township over a number of years, Mr. Arthur William James Clayden, aged 52, died yesterday morning in the Cook Hospital following six months’ illness. In recognition of his services to the Waikohu R.S.A. since the inception of the association 21 years ago Mr. Clayden was recently made a life member, he was on the executive for the past 16 years. Mr. Clayden was a member of the R.S.A. Sports Club for 26 years, a member of the Te Karaka Sports ciub. judged axemen’s competitions for a number of years at the Gisborne Show, and was a member of the Te Karaka Bowling Club for 10 years. He was president of the bowling club for one year, treasurer for four years and on the executive at the time of his death. As a bowler he was a consistent winner and good sportsman. The deceased was born in Gisborne and educated at Patutahi. Later he moved to Te Karaka and became well known in the district as a farmer and carrier. He is survived by Mrs. Clayden, two daughters. Miss Joy Clayden, Rotorua, Miss Olive Clayden, Te Karaka, and three sons, Mr. Percy Clayden, Te Karaka, Mr. Arthur Clayden, Waihua and Mr. Stanley Clayden, Wellington, and also by his father, two sisters and two brothers. Following a service in Cochrane’s chapel. Williams street, at 2.30 p.m. tomorrow the funeral will leave for the soldiers’ plot at the Taruheru cemetery.
