  • Son of Mary Jane and Thomas James Gullery. Family associated with D'Urville Island, French Pass, Marlborough Sounds, Picton.

    Three sons, brothers served in WW1 Nathan Newton Gullery (10/3450), James Henry Gullery (26/668) and Lawrence Gullery (12385) who died 12 October 1917, family believe at Passchendaele.

    Served New Zealand 137 days; overseas 2 years 325 days total 3 years 97 days

    Married Miss Florence Edna Hope in 1922, daughter of Dougall and Martha Hope of French Pass

    After discharge he returned to Marlborough Sounds and fished from a boat improvised to accomodate his wooden leg
