  • Obituary
Mrs. J. Howie, of Ormond, yesterday received the sad news that her second son, Private Walter C. (Tod) Harper, reported missing last week, had been killed in action on October 12. Private Harper left New Zealand with the 14th Reinforcements, and was wounded in January this year. Two months afterwards he was once more in the firing line and was “gassed” in June. After recovering he again went to the front, and was killed in action on October 12. He was very well known among a large circle of friends in Poverty Bay and Hawke’s Bay, and was a brother of Miss N. Harper, infant mistress at the Ormond School Public - Lorraine Mona - Researcher - 8 January 2024 - PERSONAL NOTES.
