  • Rex Abernethy was the son of the Reverend Christopher and Georgina Elizabeth Abernethy, of Woodville and later of 363 Cambridge Terrace, Christchurch. Husband of Kathleen Agnes (nee A'Court).

    Three sons served in WW1, two were killed - Thomas Mitchell Abernethy (55293) and Kenneth Shoreland Abernethy (14182) . The third brother, 2nd Lieutenant Rex Clifford Abernethy (14185) also with the New Zealand Rifle Brigade survived.

    Discharged in England, (Struck off Strength) from NZEF 8 October 1917
