  • My great grandfather was Thomas Valentine Jessop, your older brother. It is a tragedy that the family lost two young men in WWI. I have visited Hope in Nelson, and the plaque down on the waterfront that shows your parents arriving in NZ, One day I would like to visit Hill 60.

  • Garfield Jessop had a nephew named after him and born on April 25th 1918. He was Garfield David Black. Garfield Black had a letter from his uncle written from Egypt before going to Gallipoli. It was a beautifully written and most expressive letter written to Garfield Jessop's sister. We knew Garfield Black and his wife Nancy well. They lived all their lives in North West Bay in Pelorus Sound. On Garfield Black's 80th birthday (Apr 25th 1998) we invited him and available members of his family to a ceremony to name our little bay in North West Bay "Garfields Bay" after both Garfields. We are holding a commemoration for both men on the Anzac Centennial in the Bay.
