  • Like so many of his time (WW1) the effect of the war on him was not appreciated. His close family, on his return to NZ, absorbed him. However his wider family did not appreciate the effect of the war on him. My mother (his daughter Mabel Montgomery/Gregg) did and he lived with his family until he died.

  • Acknowledging the contribution of my Great Grandfather, Henry Steele Montgomery, to the WW1 was effort.

  • This is my Great Grandfather and I am so proud of all he has done - I will carry his legacy on with me and pass this on to my son. I will march in the ANZAC Day parade in memory of him and his fellow soldiers.
