  • Richard Cleere is I believe the great-uncle after whom I was named. My name is Richard Francis Aalders a.k.a. as Rob and Robin.

My mother was Johanna Elizabeth Aalders, nee Walsh. Her mother was Mary Cleere who married a William Walsh. I believe Richard Cleere was Mary Cleeres brother and thus my great-uncle.

I have started doing a genealogical trace of my matrilineal line and I would appreciate any information that Richard Cleere's descendents can provide on his family links in Kilkenny.

  • My great uncle, Richard (Dick) Cleere emigrated with his sisters from Kilkenny to New Zealand. Shortly after arriving war broke out and Dick returned to Europe to fight in the Great War but never returned.

We have visited the memorial in France which commemorates where he died.

We are unsure where he originally settled in New Zealand. My mother, his neice, knows that one of his sisters went to run a hotel near te Franz Josef Glacier with her husband, but we have no other information.
