  • John McGrath married Katherine Hassell on August 4, 1904 in the Registrar's Office in Levin, Manawatu-Wanganui and they had a daughter, Lillian Thelma MCGRATH, born in Palmerston North, Manawatu-Wanganui on July 29, 1906. Katherine was born in 1883 Awahuri, Wellington.

    His birth date is recorded in the Military Personnel file as 28 August 1880, but was actually 25 November 1875. AWMM
