Kia orana tatou katoatoa. My name is Amiria Puia-Taylor. My mother is Michelle Tauura Puia, my grandmother's name is Helen Snowball nee Puia and my Great Grandmother (we call her Mama), her name is Koimataariki o Nga Tangiia. Her father was Puti Vakatini. Her mother is Matakeu. In late 2012 I had the privilege of meeting my Mama's family at the Bishop Family Reunion. It was through this experience of meeting new family that us younger ones worked out who our Papa Puti was. He survived the War and returned back to the Cook Islands wounded with a bullet still in his body. At the time there was no sufficient medical treatment to remove it. So he turned to alcohol to rid the pain, this was common with alot of our Cook Island soldiers. Today he is buried next to our homestead in just before Matavera, Rarotonga. I acknowledge the strife of our fallen and those who returned. Lest we forget.
