ANZAC Treasures of the Australian War Memorial Past Event Mon 10 Aug 2015, 6pmAuditorium, $10 General Admission, Free for AMI and Circle Members Join Australian author and historian Dr Peter Pedersen as he introduces his latest book, ANZAC Treasures the Gallipoli Collection of the Australian War Memorial. This talk examines the process by which, in Anzac Treasures, the story of Anzac was told through the collection held at the Australian War Memorial, something that had never been done before. Entailing much more than the usual historical recounting, this approach enabled Anzac to be brought to life in a way that was both fresh and evocative. It also allowed the fascinating story of how the collection was amassed to be described. But Anzac is not just about the Australians. As the New Zealanders put the ‘NZ’ into Anzac, the talk also looks at how collection objects held in New Zealand’s leading cultural institutions serve as potent reminders of seminal events in the New Zealand experience at Anzac, most notably the epic of Chunuk Bair.
