A gift for jazz - The Campbell Brothers

On display from THU 23 MAR
Ground floor
This display celebrates the Campbell brothers, Phil (born James Rangi), George and Lew, jazz musicians from Paeroa.
Phil Campbell was one of New Zealand’s finest jazz trumpeters, gaining a reputation for his remarkable ‘hot trumpet’ in the late 1930s.
A musical family, the Campbell brothers were recruited to the Kiwi Concert Party during World War II which took them to Italy where tragedy struck and the Campbell whānau lost Phil.
