Tongan Language Week Celebrations

Celebrate the language and culture of Tonga at Auckland Museum for Tonga Islands Language Week 2017. A case of koloa (treasures) from Tonga will be on display in the Atrium throughout the week, showcasing a sisi limu (waist garment) and fishing material.
On Tuesday 5th September, visitors can explore behind the scenes of our Pacific Collection Access Project, a three year Museum project to catalogue and photograph the Pacific collections. Admire and learn about more taonga from Tonga in these exclusive tours. From 10am-2pm, limited spaces available, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to book.
On Wednesday 6th September, St Peters College will perform dances from Tonga during lunchtime from 12.10pm – 12.50pm.
On Thursday 7th September, hear from our Auckland Museum waiata group singing Tongan songs in the Atrium from 12.30pm-1pm.
And on Saturday 9th September, Te Oro in Glen Innes will come alive with the sounds, language, stories, colour and beauty of Tongan culture. Join artists, practitioners, musicians and traditional healers come together under one roof in Te Oro in Glen Innes to share their knowledge and celebrate Pacific language and culture. From 10am – 2pm at Te Oro Music and Arts Centre 98 Line Rd, Glen Innes.
