Vaiaso o le Gagana Sāmoa Samoan Language Week 2017
Celebrate the theme of Samoan Language Week 'Ma’au i lou ofaga. Maua’a lou fa’asinomaga – Keep your identity alive, to thrive' with a range of activities onsite at Auckland Museum and offsite at MIT Manukau.
Enjoy free lunchtime performances by ASB Polyfest groups from Auckland Girls Grammar on Monday 30 May, and St Peter’s College on Tuesday 31 May, both at 12.10pm in our Atrium. Admire displays of Samoan measina (treasures) in the Museum’s Atrium.
Explore behind the scenes of our Pacific Collection Access project on Tuesday 30 May with two exclusive tours. Book a free tour at 10am or 11am to see how we are opening up access to Pacific treasures in the collections and creating stronger connections with Auckland’s Pacific communities. There's a maximum of 30 people per tour, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to secure your place.
On Monday and Friday of Samoan Language Week, visit the Pacific Mamas off-site at Taku Tāmaki: Auckland Stories South at MIT Manukau and participate in our free Samoan arts and crafts workshops, where the Mamas will demonstrate the age-old arts of ‘tuiga’ (ceremonial head dress) and ‘ula fala’ (pandanus keys necklace). Hear the Mamas share their inspirations and motivations on why and how they are keeping alive Samoan arts and craft in modern day Aotearoa New Zealand from 10am-2.30pm.
