The Museum tells the story of New Zealand, its place in the Pacific and its people.

The Museum is a war memorial for the province of Auckland and holds one of New Zealand's top three heritage libraries. It has pre-eminent Māori and Pacific collections, significant natural history resources and major social and military history collections, as well as decorative arts and pictorial collections.

Draft Annual Plan 2024/25

We are pleased to present to you our Draft Annual Plan for FY 2024/25, which represents a year of transition as we launch our new Strategic Direction, The Path to 2029. While the Museum is still recovering from the financial hangover of COVID-19, with three years of static public funding and reduced revenue, we remain focused on delivering world class experiences for Aucklanders and visitors to the city.

Governance

Tāmaki Paenga Hira is Auckland’s War Memorial Museum, home to an ongoing remembrance of New Zealand’s service personnel. The Museum is also New Zealand’s oldest research institution, actively contributing to societal and environmental understanding, with an international benchmark-setting focus on indigenous knowledge.

Rainbow Tick

In September 2018, Auckland Museum received accreditation into the Rainbow Tick programme.

We’re proud to be the first Rainbow Tick certified Museum and cultural institution nationally.

The Rainbow Tick is an external audit and quality improvement programme designed to help an organisation to be a safe, welcoming and inclusive place for people of diverse gender identity and sexual orientation.
