Upright many-trunked, open tree. Height ca. 11m, DBH 22.5 cm. Creamy-pink bark, peeling in fine, horizontal strips. Young branches dark brown with lighter lenticels. Leaves mid-green, dull, ovate with serrate margins, paler underside. Hairs in apex of veins on underside of leaf. Catkins. Habitat: Poplar avenue, on stream bank in shade of B. papyrifera var commutata. Ex Eastwoodhill Arboretum Sep 2018
