    Dominant vascular plant on scoria tuff and rubble slopes below first tier of summit cliffs. Forming dense tangles and smothering (or nearly so) other plants - especially Achyranthes velutina and smaller ngaio (Myoporum rapense subsp. kermadecense). No flowering or fruiting material seen here or at Windy Point where this species is also common.
