Field Collection Notes
Mature palm tree, Ht ca 8m. Upright, straight, green trunk with leaf scars at ca 6cm intervals. Leaves attached with large shiny dark green spathes (sheaths) to trunk. Leaves up to 4.5m long forming arching crown. Leaflets up to 1m long, glossy mid-green younger leaves, dark green older. Alternate. Midrib flat-topped. Seed heads [Sheet A] on a spike at base of lowest spathe. Many spiked with green elliptic seeds, turning orange-red when ripe. Only a few orange here.
Semi-shady tall Nikau-Puriri forest situation.
