  • Description

Kato pesi. Purse. This is a hand woven kato pesi. It has been woven from lau fā (pandanus leaf). It is square in shape and flat in form. The edge along the opening of the kato pesi has been finished in a serrated style rim. Two kavei (handles) have been attached from inside of the opening edge. The lalaga (weave) portrays a plain woven format. Both front and back of the kato pesi show mata pelē (patterns).

Both portray an 'X' style motif that has been defined by strands of dyed lau fā in dark brown and orange. These have been applied externally.
