    One of ten (10) German origin, WWI period, numbered swatches machine-woven from machine-twisted paper fibre 'threads', each with original label attached defining intended use

    This swatch (.9) labelled "For clothing" - Portrait format, rectangular textile swatch with corners removed; substitute textile used for clothing; appears cut from a larger piece (as no selvedge evident); woven from S-twisted spun paper 'fibres' in a complex [2/1] twill weave; surface appears to be dyed black on both sides after weaving; dark grey/black in colour
