Born in Huntly in 1888, Maud Montgomery later trained at Auckland Hospital graduating as a registered nurse in January 1914. During WW1 she enlisted for service with the New Zealand Army Nursing Service and embarked aboard HS Maheno on its second charter, leaving New Zealand on 25 January 1916.
