The Auckland Lyceum Club was set up as the Auckland Women's Club, formed from the patriotic groups which women formed to comfort and support First World War troops overseas. In 1922 the Lyceum name and principles were adopted and in 1928 the women moved into purpose-built premises on the sixth floor of Smith and Caughey's new building.
