    War Club (English)

  • Description

    U'u. War club. A highly sought after war club carved from 'aito (ironwood) into a bifacial head and long, cylindrical shaft. The top of the club is rounded and oval in section. Each face of the 'U'u is carved into stylised facial features of a tiki, with each eye being a small carved head. Several smaller tiki are incorporated into the design of this club head as well as additional carved surface decoration of distinctive Marquesan style.

    A cross bar is incorporated across the width of the top portion of the club. The butt is convex and oval in section. Some damage visible to the wood at the top of the head. The 'U'u is dark in colour and has a glossy patina. A crack is visible on the butt of this U'u.
