  • Description

    Penu. Coral pounder. This penu is made from putao (coral), ground and smooth to form a narrow neck and lug at its top and flared generously toward the base, which is convex. The putao is porous and textured. A braided cord of coconut sennit is tied around the neck of the pounder. The lug consists of two connected knobs with a fragment of historical label still visibly adhered to the middle of the lugs. The edge of the base is chipped. The penu is off-white in colour.
