This large tapa was gifted to the Auckland Museum over 100 years ago. It is richly decorated with black paint with typical Niuean concentric designs. Contained within a rectangular or circular format, the patterns of Niue barkcloth are very distinctive; abstract shapes and plant forms delicately drawn with fine black lines and usually set in a grid.
