    Purse (English)

  • Description

Kato pesi. Purse. This is a handwoven kato pesi. It has been woven from lau fā (pandanus leaf). It is square in shape and flat in form. The edge along the opening of the kato pesi has been finished in a serrated style rim. Two kavei (handles) have been attached from the inside of the opening edge. The lalaga (weave) portrays a plain woven format. Both front and back of the kato pesi show mata pelē (patterns) that portray an 'X' style motif.

This has been defined by the used of black dyed lau fā that has been applied externally to the sides. The base of the kato pesi shows a braided finish.
