    Moai. Stone statue. This is a replica of a moai carved from stone. The stone is grey in colour with a smooth surface. The moai is carved to include a rounded base, a round belly, neck and head with prominent features. The protruding belly indicates that this moai may be a bahine (female). Moai are thought to be representations of ancient Polynesian ancestors. This moai may have been made as a collectible item for the tourist trade.
