    Hafted adze (English)

  • Description

    Toki. Hafted adze. This toki consists of a wooden handle cut from a tree branch incorporating a section of a natural offshoot to which is hafted a small toki (adze) shaped from maka uli (volcanic stone). The handle is light brown in colour. It is long and cylindrical with a smooth surface treatment. It is slightly bent in profile. The toki is trapezoidal in cross section with sharp side edges and steep bevel, with a slight curve in profile of the sharp cutting edge.

    The toki is lashed securely to the wooden haft with pulu (braided coconut sennit)
