sake bottle, stopper and cup, the bottle of smooth white porcelain in the shape of a gourd. incised decoration on body of one large flower with leaves. undercut base. red silk tassled cord tied to stopper and small circular loop on upper body. flaring conical footed cup.

this sake bottle of white porcelain from Yoshizaki, Fukui Prefecture, is made in the shape of a gourd, since gourds were often used in old Japan as containers for sake. The silk cord copies the ons that were used for carrying the gourds. The gold paper sealed over the stopper completes the effect of de luxe quality.
