    Wedding dress worn Scotland (descriptive name)

  • Description

    Silk dress, worn by donors mother circa 1875 in Scotland, it has been recorded as a wedding gown but also is likely to be a dress for an older woman. This dress is made from brown silk taffeta with light brown satin detailing. It is fully lined. The front panel is cut on redingote lines down to the ground. There is a front opening panel trimmed with piped lappets. The bodice has buttons down the centre front to about hip level. It has a high collar.

    Long fitted sleeves with a deep cuff. The skirt is draped with a bustle at the back with tabs, frills and fringes.
