    swivel gun or fixed fort gun

    a smooth bore muzzle loader with barrel and flint lock, fixed to the swivel on the top of a wall. Used at the time of the American Revolution

    Tower flintlock swivel gun, .972 inch calibre, iron swivel and ramrod, swivel hole in forend, barrel slightly belled at end, externally only, foresight and notch, large brass escutcheon, unmarked, borer throughout stock

    markings:

    engraved: on lock: [crown] / GR TOWER

    on rear of barrel: military markings and government proof and view marks

    broad arrow on inside of butt plate

    [crown] over "3" and "HN" stamped inside lock

    note: lock style date is approximately 1760 -1780 and ornamentation style is prior to 1800, but gun has George IV crown (1820-1830)
