The Suzuya confectionary in Tokyo packages its "ama natto" (candied beans) in beautifully crafted small round containers of unpainted wood. silk cords in the congratulatory colours of red and white are attached at the sides to form a handle. the effect is altogether charming and, at the same time, suggestive of old-time Tokyo when it was still known as Edo.
