Screw cutting die

human history
  • Description

    Screw cutting die

Steel tool, with turning knob at top edge, flat rectangular plate in centre with graduated cut-outs, which are numbered. Circular hole at bottom edge.

Even more than with gauges, screw threads have varied country to country and still do. Some threads have been peculiar to one manufacturer, area or trade. The variety of diameters and pitches seems almost endless. Screwplates, with a range of graduated sizes were commonly used for making, or repairing damaged screws in timepieces.
