Miss Beran and Mrs Adler were sisters of Jewish family born in Vienna. Mrs Adler's husband's family emigrated to Palestine in 1938, taking the family possessions. In 1939 Miss Beran and Mrs Adler and all the remainder of the family were swept into concentration camps by the Nazis and only these ladies survived. This embroidery which belonged to Miss Beran's father was later retrieved from the relatives in Palestine.
