  • Description

    Pareu. Dance skirt. Composite materials used in the object's manufacture. Multiple strands of natural coloured kiriau (hibiscus fibre) woven in a flat wide band at the waist then left loose in a thick layer as the body of the garment. At the waistband section, blue material covers the woven segment of kiriau onto which is attached multiple decorative elements using puka seeds, pupu shells, tungangi shells, poepoe seeds, matakoviri seeds, and raroara shells.

    Large hanging tassels of kiriau are a decorative feature across the width of the pareu.
