    Ma’ilo. Woven plate. Laulau. Platter. This is a handwoven ma'ilo. It has been woven from two parts of a lau niu (coconut leaf). It is rectangular in shape and flat in form. The lau niu (stem) has been split down the centre. The pinnules of each split leaf has then been woven together to form the rectangular surface area. A braid finishes the opposite edge. Ma'ilo are used to present mea'ai (food) on.

    A large leaf would line the inside base of the ma'ilo then mea'ai would be placed on top. Ma'ilo would be used during functions and can also be used to serve fa'a ausi.
