Te reeree

human history
  • Common Name
    Armament T&E, Bludgeon
  • Other Name

    Sword (English)

  • Description

Te reeree. Sword. This is a hand held weapon made from the following materials: kanni (coconut palm wood), noko (coconut midrib), wii ni bakoa (shark teeth), kora (coconut sennit fibre cordage), ira (pandanus leaf) and irauea (cordage of human hair). A length of the kanni has been cut and filed into a cylindrical form with a tapered point at the top. Its base shows a short tapered point and circular cross-section.

A fibrous and fractured width of the ira covers the intersection of the handle area and blade section. Some parts of irauea remain amongst the weave through the ira. Continuous circular perforations line the edge of the blade section towards the fractured pointed end of the reeree. Wii ni bakoa has been placed over the depth of the drilled perforations. A circular perforation has also been made into the centre of each wii ni bakoa. Te kora has been threaded through both the wii ni bakoa perforations and blade perforations. This continues towards the pointed end of the reeree. All teeth are present in this reeree. This was made for the purpose of combat.
