    Lafi. Lava. Sash. This lafi is part of a dance attire set worn by males performing the tauoluga (type of dance). It is worn across the body and secured at the ends. This lafi is made from gatu (bark cloth) that has been painted with black ink which is made from the soot of tuitui (candlenut). FUTUNA FUTUNA is painted in the middle of the lafi, and there is a decorated border. The side edges are fringed and the top and bottom edges are straight.
